Dorota was born in Poland; six months later martial law was declared and personal freedoms were suppressed. As a child she witnessed her family struggle under an oppressive regime eventually fleeing to eastern Germany. They remained in a refugee came for over a year, until October 27th, 1989, when they landed in Canada as Privately Sponsored Refugees.

Prior to coming to the Manitoba Museum, Dorota was the Executive Director of the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization of Manitoba Inc. During her ten-year tenure, Dorota led IRCOM through rapid growth, innovation, and increased impact and influence. Her commitment to social justice, equity, and celebrating our shared humanity have forever shaped her leadership.

In 2021 Dorota became the CEO of the Manitoba Museum, a cornerstone institution with reach into the lives of thousands of Manitobans. In the midst of COVID and the resulting uncertainty, Dorota brought visionary leadership, great enthusiasm, and renewed hope for the future.
