VA, USBiography Sonja Lauren: Author, National Public Speaker, Educator, Advocate, COA Born in poverty in West Virginia and living in Richmond, Virginia for the past fourteen years. Ms. Lauren became the author of the book, The Covered Smile in 2003. Since the release of The Covered Smile, Ms. Lauren has become a warmly welcomed national public speaker and educator, an advocate for dental professionals, public health services and an advocate to impact child abuse and dental neglect issues. Sonja has become a master educator on topics such as the patient's point of view, dental office management skills, the psychology behind "covered smiles", treatment planning and increasing production and productivity. Ms. Lauren of The Covered Smile lecture series has become known as 'The Covered Smile Lady'. Ms. Lauren has twenty-seven years of business office management experience within the fields of dentistry and ophthalmology, and fifteen years of being the President of The Covered Smile, Inc. and previous President of the Sonja Lauren Foundation – a non-profit foundation to provide education and dental care for children who did not qualify for Medicaid or standard dental insurance plans. In 1991, Ms. Lauren attended Shepherd University in West Virginia, where she studied psychology, medical and retail business management, art and writing. In 1997, she attended Northern VA Community College, which inspired her to peruse her writing career and began teaching "How To Become Published" classes. A small sample of Sonja Lauren's speaking events includes: presenting at the ADA for the ADAA and International implant Auxiliaries, AGD, Virginia Dental Association, Rocky Mountain Dental Convention, CASA groups, WVU, VCU, and the Chesterfield Technical Dental Assisting school, where The Covered Smile is a required read. Ms. Lauren has been a keynote speaker on many occasions, including the West Virginia Growing Healthy Children Conference where Dr. Kathy Roth, Previous President of the ADA was also a Keynote Speaker. Ms. Lauren holds her (COA) - Certified Ophthalmic Assisting Certification from the Joint Alliance on commission of Allied Health Personal in Ophthalmology. Previous memberships include: Previously, Linda Miles Speaking Consulting Network, Toastmasters, ADDOM, ADAA, Richmond Writers Club and The Surgeon General's Face of A Child Convention in 2000 in Washington DC. Ms. Lauren has been a guest on numerous TV and Radio shows, and she has authored many articles throughout her career. Ms. Lauren shares her educational background and experiences with dental neglect to create an educational and captivating series of lectures which can be found no where else. Currently Ms. Lauren is working on book two which is a continuation of The Covered Smile, and she much enjoys going to the beach, power walking, helping others, and spending time with her daughter and new grandson, who live in San Diego California.
