Veteran journalist, host of "Maryland Morning With Sheilah Kast"
Sheilah Kast brings wide experience in television and newspapers to public radio.

She is a skilled interviewer, hosting the interview show: Maryland Morning with Sheilah Kast on the public-radio station in Baltimore, WYPR. She also occasionally hosts NPR’s Weekend Edition Sunday, a two-hour magazine show aired nationally. Previously, she anchored brief news updates which aired each hour during prime time on PBS stations across the U.S.

Her first public-broadcasting venture, in association with BusinessWeek magazine, was a national weekly business show on PBS. Ms. Kast began and hosted This Week in Business, on which she analyzed breaking developments in the economy, interviewed business leaders and discussed trends in personal finance.

Before moving to public television, Ms. Kast worked as a correspondent for ABC News for fifteen years. In addition to anchoring several newscasts, her reporting ranged from the White House to Congress to the historic 1991 coup attempt in Moscow, which signaled the end of the Soviet Empire.

Her focus through those beats, and throughout most of her career, has been on the economy and workplace, and how they affect people’s everyday lives. At The Washington Star newspaper she covered financial and banking regulation, and energy and tax issues. On the Star’s metro staff, she covered the Maryland and Virginia legislatures, as well as county governments and schools. She also edited one of the Star’s zoned local daily editions.

From 1999-2001 she lived in Romania, where her husband, Jim Rosapepe, served as U.S. Ambassador. She had unparalleled access to Romanians in all walks of life. This gave her a unique opportunity to understand the challenges of a society and economy making the transition to freedom.

After returning to the U.S., she covered the Washington aftermath of the Sept. 11 terror attacks for Cable News Network.

She is past president of the Washington Press Club, a board member of the American News Women’s Club, and active in fund-raising for organizations that help Romania’s children and elderly. She lives in College Park, MD.
