Michael Kranitz is a serial entrepreneur, award-winning business writer, published author, dynamic speaker, and business mentor with a successful record of creating companies and innovative software solutions since the mid 1990's.
Kranitz, a former corporate reorganization lawyer of more than a decade, has built and sold nearly a dozen software businesses since 1997. As CEO and visionary behind DriveOff.com, the first ever end-to-end consumer online auto buying and leasing service, Kranitz raised $21 million in the public markets in addition to $15 million from Wells Fargo to build the company to 77 employees in less than two years. DriveOff.com was sold to a Microsoft and Ford joint venture in 1999. Kranitz became VP of Autos for MSN until 2001.
Kranitz co-founded and wrote the software for RCUniverse.com, which became the world's largest online community for radio control flying hobbyists in 2007. Using the RCUniverse participatory market software, Kranitz spun off Kaango, a syndicated classified ad network designed to aggregate into a single market all classified ad content from newspapers across the United States. In 2007, Hearst and MediaNews acquired both RCUniverse and Kaango in a deal valued at $24 million.
Kranitz wrote LeaseWizard Software and the book, "Look Before You Lease: Secrets to Smart Vehicle Leasing" both of which were acquired by Microsoft in 1999.
Kranitz is an entrepreneurship mentor for undergraduate and graduate students and a business advisor for budding businesses (including RCPilot.com, LetsCraft.com and HeliWorkshop.com). He also serves on the Vanderbilt University Law School pre-admission screening team.
Kranitz was an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist in the Rocky Mountain Region in 2008 for his creation of Kaango Classifieds, a syndicated ad platform for newspapers.
Kranitz has made guest appearances on Fox News, CNBC, Bloomberg, MSN and dozens of local television and radio programs nationwide.
In his past life, Kranitz was an on-air personality for WGGG in Gainesville. He performed stand-up comedy in clubs and dives throughout Florida and had the privilege of opening for Bob Hope in the SWAMP at the University of Florida's annual Gator Growl event. Kranitz enjoys chess, racquetball and weightlifting as well as building and flying giant-scale jet-powered radio controlled helicopters (because who wouldn't?).
