Founder of BrazilMax, a travel guide to Brazil that highlights ecotourism and geotourism in Latin America's largest nation, he is also the host of BrazilMax Radio. His articles on ecotourism have appeared in The Wall Street Journal, the San Antonio Express-News, De Financieel-Economische Tijd, Planeta.com and elsewhere.

Hinchberger has covered the Latin American political, cultural, and economic scene for magazines from ARTnews to Mother Jones and The Nation, and he writes regularly for the Los Angeles-based publication EcoAméricas. He has contributed to six books and written for the Global Greengrants Fund, the World Wildlife Fund, and the World Economic Forum, among other international organizations.

He has served as president of the Association of Foreign Correspondents in São Paulo, and is active in the Brazilian Studies Association, the Overseas Press Club of America, and the Society of Environmental Journalists.
