VA, US
Sex trafficking survivor shows how to spot and report predators and victims of abuse, and offers help, hope and life-saving strategies to victims, survivors, friends and family.

Are you or a friend or loved one a victim of sex trafficking or abuse? Theresa Jenkins was sex trafficked from the age of 8 to 11 by a family member, and today she's committed to bringing help and hope to victims and survivors like herself. Her passionate, energetic presentation gives you everything you need to know to stay safe and aware, both on the street and on social media, so you can spot predators before they strike and avoid getting trapped in a nightmare—or lifetime—of abuse.

"Sex traffickers are very savvy," says Theresa. "They look for people who are vulnerable, have emotional issues, need money or don't have social support or a stable living situation and they promise them better lives. People displaced by natural disasters or political instability are often targeted. They may promise education, a high-paying job, or a loving relationship. For example, a trafficker may target someone who faces financial hardship and needs to earn money to get out of debt or support their family."

Theresa's life-changing presentation shows you how to avoid sex traffickers or, if you're a survivor, how to move beyond abuse, manage your fears, replace self-judgment with love, and start treating yourself really well. As part of her recovery, Theresa had counseling and training to help other victims. "I want to show them that they can make it back to living in normal society," she says. Her eye-opening talk gives your group techniques they can use right now to create a happier, healthier lifestyle. "I'm committed to empowering those who are in need and hurting, using my skills and talent to raise awareness and encourage others to get involved in the fight for human rights around the globe," she adds. "I give people hope. They look at me and know that if I can survive, they can too, and that love, courage and hope is real!"

No one should be treated as a commodity, and awareness is the first step. As friends, parents, guardians, teachers, community leaders, business owners, members of advocacy groups or law enforcement, or policy makers, we can each play a crucial role in combating human trafficking. After leaving this eye-opening presentation, you may save someone's life!
