Arletty Pinel, MD is CEO of Genos Global, an international health and development consulting firm established in 1992 in Sao Paulo, Brazil that now runs its global operations from Panama. She is an innovative, entrepreneurial and dynamic professional with more than thirty years of internationally recognized experience in designing, implementing, managing and evaluating public health and social development programs in most regions of the world. This includes more than fifteen years in leadership positions at major global organizations, such as: 

§  Chief, Reproductive Health at the United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA (New York) - Coordinated policy and technical guidance including innovation in programming to address new technologies (e.g., HPV vaccines) and neglected topics (e.g., mental health, disabilities). Lead strategist for global maternal, newborn and child health advocacy;

 

  • Fund Portfolio Director for Latin America and Eastern Europe at the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Geneva) - As an Executive Leadership Team member, managed a portfolio of US$1 billion, the largest financial contribution towards the three diseases in both regions;
  • Deputy Director of YouthNet (Washington, DC) - Was responsible for technical leadership, innovation in programming, and private sector involvement of a five-year, US$85 million, global U.S. Agency for International Development's (USAID) Cooperative Agreement focusing on youth reproductive health and HIV/AIDS prevention in developing countries;
  • Associate Director of Behavior Change Interventions/Technical Programming and Support at Family Health International (Washington, DC) - Was responsible for the development of the HIV/AIDS prevention strategy and capacity development initiative for IMPACT, USAID's flagship effort for addressing the global HIV/AIDS pandemic from 1998 through 2007; and
  • Regional Coordinator for Latin America at the International HIV/AIDS Alliance (London) - Developed the first regional program of a multi-donor initiative to create a new international mechanism to support HIV/AIDS programs at the community level in developing countries.

 

Dr. Pinel has navigated all aspects of global public health, from direct patient care at the community level to complex national policymaking to international financial and technical support. This has led to extensive international travel to provide technical assistance, support implementation, and supervise field programs worldwide.

Dr. Pinel's strong communication and interpersonal skills have contributed to her ability to work in complex environments and multicultural settings. She is an exceptional trainer and her dynamic and engaging style has her in constant demand for speaking engagements and radio and television interviews around the world. She speaks fluent English, Spanish and Portuguese.

Dr. Pinel has received multiple international awards for her outstanding ability to find creative solutions to global health challenges. Together with other professional women from the Americas, Africa, Asia and Europe, she recently launched "Global Women: South-South Digital inclusion Initiative," an international effort aimed at increasing the participation of women in technology for health and development through interregional cooperation. She is an active Board member of several professional and non-profit organizations.

Arletty Pinel, MD is a psychiatrist trained at the University of Sao Paulo (Brazil). She did her post-doctorate work in psycho-endocrinology and human sexuality at Columbia and Cornell Universities (USA). As an undergraduate, she earned a B.S. in Science in Biology and Zoology from the George Washington University. Dr. Pinel received further training in program management, telemedicine and virtual education.
